Happy 4th!

4thofjulybirds

Happy 4th of July everyone!! I know I am a bit early but since I have my brother and his wife coming in from LA tonight I know I will never have time for another post. I am praying that this weekend we get some sort of summer weather here in New England, it would be nice to get to the beach and enjoy some outside time. This year we made no real plans so I think we will take the boys into Boston for the famous fireworks at the Hatch Shell, there is nothing like it with the Pops playing and the beautiful scenery. I have gone to the Macy's fireworks for years but Boston has something that Macy's just can't compare to. Maybe its that old world charm we have here, and the chowda!! Nonetheless its a great time to be in Boston, with the Tall Ships and the Chowder Festival..you just can't beat it. The first year we moved back home however was a different story. My husband and I rented this house in the beautiful town of Winchester, MA and had all our friends from NYC come and stay for the weekend and enjoy all that Boston had to offer- one thing the weather then was almost in the 100's and we had no AC!!

We all decided to hang out at our friend Michaels apt in Charlestown since it had a pool and was on the water.. and watch the fireworks there. I think we hardly got out of the pool that weekend..it was so hot it was unbearable! We all still laugh about that weekend, and you know who you are!!

This year however is a different story, I would just like some sun ..please!!

Have a great 4th everyone!!

Sea Shells

Sketchyseashells

Summer is a time when you can relax outside, have BBQ's take a walk along the beach, but these days it just doesn't seem to exist because of all this rain, and to add insult to injury now that the rain is gone you can't take a walk on the beach in MA because its closed due to Red Tide. For those who are not familiar with Red Tide it is exactly that, reddish hue in the water that is full of bacteria, you cannot swim in it or eat any kind of shellfish that is in it unless you like hospitals and doctors and getting sick.

I cannot remember a summer that has been this bad and frankly I don't ever want to see one ever again. Now mind you that summer has just begun, but if this is any indication of how its going to be the rest of the time you can bet I will not be happy. My family and I live to go to the beach and run in the sand, make those crazy castles and walk along the getty. This is what we look forward to all year, and this is why I moved home away from Brooklyn, so now I say to mother nature.. come on and give me my summer bliss, I work hard all year, you can at least give me 3 months!!

By the way this is a new print I just created for my summmer rant and I hope you like it, I am going to put some of the individual shell icons as prints in my shop. So stayed tuned for that. I hope the rest of you are having some fun this summer...! I am hoping I get mine in too!

Have a great weekend all.

Hello everyone in honor of getting over 1000 followers on Twitter I am doing a giveaway!!
I have 2 petite collages that I am giving away. These are originals and signed by yours truly! Some of these flowers you will recognized in some of my other designs. The turquoise flower was used in several greeting cards and stationery products. I have really enjoyed the fun conversations I am having over on Twitter along with learning allot about several people and what they do. I find meeting other people fascinating and
hearing what they have to say as well. There is never a shortage of new info on Twitter which is one of the reasons it just draws me in.

So to all my new and old followers, here is a little love for you, simply leave a comment on this blog of why you like Twitter and what has surprise you about it. I am curious to see what others think of this new way of communicating to people.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.. I am off to Martha's Vineyard to have a gals weekend, full of fun and relaxing. I should post some pics of my trip when I get back!

Buggie Bugs

Bugsprint

Bugsallover

Bugscordstripe

Here is a little collection I did right before I went to Surtex and Stationery. I love designing little characters and these bugs we so much fun to do. I think they would look great on a number of items, who doesn't love fun little bugs? I haven't seen many bugs around these days since the weather here has not been the best. I am hoping that sometime soon we are going to have our summer weather if not I think I am going to loose it. Its bad enough all winter but to have this constant rain all Spring is crazy! I hope everyone has a great weekend, we are doing a fishing derby tomorrow and going to a couple of graduation parties on Sunday. Personally I would love to just sit home and veg but it looks like that is not going to happen. I am looking forward to hanging with my girlfriend at her house out on Martha's Vineyard next weekend, then maybe I can finally veg!!

Woodland Friends

Woodlandfriends1

Woodlandfriends2

Well folks I finally got around to showing you one of my new fabric collections due out this October, Woodland Friends!

I had allot of fun creating this cute small collection and some of the other patterns I designed for this were not put in but in the next upcoming Fall collection they will be brought out- can't tell you what they are just yet, but I know you will love them!!

I also created a kit that will be in Quilts and More magazine to promote Woodland Friends, this is a childs chef apron and oven mitt. I had so many other ideas but with my regular designing job its hard to do everything.

Many of you would I am sure would like some other elements to go with the cute Hedgehog so I created a print that I am selling in my shop, and some other items will be coming soon!

Here is the print!
Hedgehogprint

You can get it here!

I hope everyone likes this collection as much as I do, and be sure to check back to the shop again for some more exciting things to go with it. Its been a whirlwind around here working after coming back from NYC and all my meetings, hopefully I will get caught up soon to bring you some more goodies.

Have a great weekend everyone!! Hopefully you have better weather than we do here in New England- we are sick of this rainy/dreary weather.

Stationery and Surtex show rap-up

Stationeryentrance

Well I just returned from the National Stationery Show and Surtex Design Show in NYC and there is lots to tell. As we all know the economy is not the greatest and I would say attending one of these shows will certainly prove that correct. I have been going to the Stationery Show since the 1990's and I would have to say this was the slowest, least exhibited show I have ever seen. I know many companies and sales reps whom I work with and they kept on saying in all their years as exhibitors they have never seen it this bad. The show used to run from end to end on the main floor and then spill on over down another level. Some of my major clients who used to have huge booths were not even there. With that being said those who were there said things went better than expected.

I have to just add that at the end of the day on Sunday I took the shuttle bus to the Marriott to meet with friends and I overheard the bus driver tell another they have never seen it soo bad. I can agree, there used to be taxis lined up outside in the morning and they were hardly any when I took mine.

The trends I did see were just continuations of things already out there.. Owls, birds and letterpress. I was told that mushrooms were making a comeback so which is funny since I did several prints of those over a year ago. Still allot of bright fun colored designs and many collage looking ones as well, like yours truly.

Ginaanderin

One of my new client this past year is the fabulous Gina B.Designs.

Here is Gina and her wonderful designer Erin who takes my designs and transforms them into beautiful stationery.I love the quality of their product, the cards feel like hard watercolor paper and they are not as big as your ordinary card, which makes them special. You can find their cards at places like Kates Paperie in Soho, a wonderful stationery store.

Ginabproducts

Ginaproducts2

I love seeing my Santa and Snowman on these great cards and notepads. I cannot wait to get my box of samples!! I was allowed to take some while I was there so I could Twitter about it! As we all know I am a big Twitter fan these days.

Now onto Surtex! This is a show that showcases artists who license and design for product. I had been exhibiting at this show for about 7 years until last year and this year when I felt it no longer was worth my while to do so. I still go to the show to say hi to all my fellow artists and meet with clients. I can honestly say this was the smallest show ever in the history of the show. Surtex used to have three floors and now it was on the same floor as Stationery. Many of my fellow artist friends were walking the show as well meeting with clients.I really didn't get a chance to hang out and asses the art of the artists since I was busy with clients so I wish I could tell you what they were showing.

Here are some of my fellow Surtex buddies!

Bentleypub

Bentley Publishing ladies, who were my old neighbors when I used to exhibit!!

Barbanddebra

Barbara Tourtillotte and Debra Jordan Byran who was also walking the show.
Carol

World famous Miss Carol Eldridge, who was walking the show as well and had been doing the show for over 20 years, infact she did the very first show.Carol is the go to lady if you ever want info on licensing! With her vast experience there is no other person to see!

Holli

Some of my new Twitter/Facebook friends who did their very first show.. Holli Conger.

Jannie

and the very cute Miss Jannie Ho! Of Chicken Girl!

They were pleased with the contacts they made and really were just trying to see if they could generate other business rather than the children's book industry they normally work in. I have to say I am one of the lucky ones, my very first show I got three very huge contracts and not many people get those. Sometimes its all about timing, you just never know when things will hit.

While I was at the shows I also met with my fabric client Clothworks. They took a bunch of us designers who were at Surtex out to a fabulous dinner at the Michelangelo Hotel. I had such a great time hanging with my fellow fabric peeps!

Clothworksdinner

Counter clockwise is Sue Zipkin, Candice Hoffman( owner of Clothworks), Christine Graf, Me! Barbara Tourtillotte, Joyce Cronkhite ( Clothworks designer), and Sharyn Sowell.

It was nice to talk about how we all got our start in the business and new things we are working on. I think the dinner lasted over three hours which means lots of nice conversation.

After days of being back in NYC I was certainly ready to go home to my family and sleep in my own bed. As much as I miss living in NY I don't miss the small spaces and noise at night. Its nice that I get to visit every now and then.

All in all for me the best part of a trip like this is hanging around my close school friends and fellow artist friends. I tried to get a picture of another fantastic artist friend but then my iphone went nuts! The amazing Robin Zingone, who is just a delight to talk to and creates these fun and funky designs.

I am sorry to all those I didn't get a chance to say hi to, there just wasn't enough time, with meetings and dinners and such. Hopefully next year I can carve out more time to do so. I even spotted the fabulous Miss Amy Butler while in the Starbucks line.. but couldn't say hi since I had to rush to a meeting.

Well thats my report folks.. until next year!!

New Print- Happy Mother's Day!

Summerflowers

I have a new print to share as well as wishes to all those Mothers out there. I thought it would be a nice change from my work this week to create a fun and bright design that would reflect how Mother's Day should feel. I know for many including myself that this job is beyond all jobs and that its a day to day struggle to keep it afloat. I find it even harder to be a good mother while trying to be on top at work too. There is no easy way to do it all and frankly I don't think anyone can. I often feel like I am a horrible mother when I let my kids play their video games in order for me to get my work done, but as I find out on my favorite social network Twitter I am not alone in this. I am not sure if anyone can juggle it all without having a few bumps along the way.

As my boys get older I find myself longing to keep them young, but when I remember all the struggles I went through when they were babies I think not. I sometimes am amazed that I made it through all those sleepless nights with my first and all of his stomach problems. I remember crying for days and hoping it would get better, and well it did of course. Its almost as if we are being initiated into that special club of Motherhood. The hardest job in the world is an understatement and we wouldn't trade it for the world. If I had not had a baby with stomach problems I would not have learned about patience and caring. It takes allot out of someone to care for a sick child or adult and the lessons learned will take you through any other hardships to come.

I myself find Mother's Day a strange day, do we really need one day to remind us of how much Mom has done for us? I think that we see it in our lives almost daily, and if we are lucky to still have our Moms in our lives we know to appreciate all that she has or does for us. I think this Mother's Day I will do what I always do if its nice out, plant some flowers, have a nice lunch and just hang with the family. Thats all a Mother could ask for...oh but there is one thing, can we please not say "mommy" for just one hour, I would love to know what it feels like again for just that time to be anonymous.

On a side note I want to thank Daisy Jane very much for featuring my print on her blog Scoutie Girl.
I have met so many great friends on Twitter and she is just one of them. Check out her blog Daisy Janie.

Have a great Mother's Day all!!

New Prints

Motherkidbirdprint

I know I know I have been a very bad blogger and well, what can I say at least I have been a very good Tweeter! Yes this twitter addiction has taken over my blogging world and I now have to get back to my roots and step it up a notch. Here is a new print I just added in my shop.

I am really enjoying having this shop and I just finished creating a custom Family Tree print for a client and I have to say its been awhile since I have dealt with the general public and I am pleasantly delighted with all the response. I have become somewhat of an introvert which is contrary to my personality in my licensing business. Its not easy to converse with people when you work at home alone, but with Twitter and Etsy I am finding all sorts of new friends.

I just want to thank all of you who follow me on Twitter and I am enjoying our conversation very much.

Enjoy your weekend, I will be spreading mulch and getting ready for my upcoming meetings at Surtex and The National Stationery Show.
